Infrared Imaging – How to Track the Source Leaks

We are getting more and more enquiries from home owners right across Australia asking how to track the source of a leak. Here is how a leak detection specialist goes about it…

What’s the quickest and easiest way to find a leak?

Firstly, there are many different types of leaks… shower leaks behind walls, roof leaks, leaking decks, water rising up through concrete slabs, leaks weeping through bricks, window leaks, detecting swimming pool plumbing leaks etc etc.

The short answer to sourcing a leak fast, is a combination of someone who has basic knowledge about construction, and also a thermal imaging camera in hand. A good thermal imaging company will get you very close to finding where the leak is coming into the building without putting any holes in your walls. The thermal camera will also assist to determine how far the water has travelled and potentially damaged… great for insurance claims!

Most infrared camera jobs will prevent different challenges… like bathroom leaks behind tiled walls. Again, a good operator will have the correct moisture testing equipment to use in conjunction with the infrared camera to help you pinpoint where the leak is coming in.
