Infrared Used to Find Hidden Leak Under Window – See Photo

Did you know there’s a way to find a leak prior to ripping off walls or pulling windows out?

An infrared inspection today uncovered a substantial water leak around a window that the home owner had no idea about.

The home owner originally called us to detect the source of a leak that appeared along the skirting board next to the front door. Initially, the immediate suspect area of the leak source was the front door.

Thanks to our high tech thermal imaging camera, we quickly tracked the leak to a window joinery failure on the second floor! The home owner had a builder in to look at the leak prior to us, and he had suggested taking out the front door to reseal it correctly… lucky they didn’t go ahead with that remedy! The front door had absolutely nothing to do with the source of the leak in this case, it just so happened the leak ended next to the door.

In this infrared photo, you can see there is no visual sign of a leak as the human eye would see it (righthand photo), therefore if we didn’t do a thermal imaging inspection on this home, the leak may have gone undetected and the home owner would have been out of pocket the cost to ’seal the door’.
