How Does Water Get Inside Insulation?

Just like Humans, Rodents Also Get Cold and Hungry!

Damp insulation is a health hazard, and over time your homes insulation properties will diminish, therefore leaving you with rapidly swinging inside air temperatures… and in winter, higher heating bills.

As you can see in the photo to the left, the rodents have had a field day with the insulation behind this wall. Thermal imaging can detect this type of activity (bottom photo) within minutes, thus determining the immediate area that needs to be rectified without pulling down additional walls.

If you can think of any stage in the past when you’ve heard ‘noises’ in the wall, you should certainly consider an infrared scan of your home. The chances of rodents burrowing into your insulation is high, as there isn’t really any other place for them to go in winter to stay warm! There is only one way in for them, and that’s chewing their way through, which will also allow any moisture within the ceiling or wall cavity to follow suit.
